Deep Sleep Bedroom
Most bedrooms are decorated to look good in a photograph. This one was designed to do something harder: help the person sleeping in it actually fall, and stay, asleep.

The Problem We Were Solving
Poor sleep is rarely just about the mattress. Cool-toned overhead lighting, high-contrast walls, cluttered surfaces, and screens left in view all keep the nervous system mildly alert, even when the body is tired. Over time, this quietly erodes mood, focus, and emotional resilience — sleep and mental health are tightly, biologically linked.
The Heaven Hues Approach
For this project, we built the room around a single question: what does the nervous system need to feel permission to switch off? The answer shaped every decision —
- Warm, low colour temperature lighting — layered amber table lamps instead of a single bright overhead source, so light falls in soft pools rather than flooding the whole room.
- A grounded, low-contrast palette — deep walnut wood tones, warm neutrals, and muted greens that avoid the visual "alertness" triggered by sharp light/dark contrast or saturated colour.
- Layered, tactile textiles — heavier linens and a generously layered bed that signal physical comfort and weight, both linked to lower nighttime cortisol.
- Living plants as a quiet, natural presence — softening hard edges and reconnecting the room to the same biophilic cues that calm us outdoors.
- Soft curtains and reduced visual clutter — fewer hard surfaces and reflective materials, so the eye has less to process before the mind can rest.
Why This Matters Beyond the Room
Sleep is one of the few daily habits that directly rebuilds emotional regulation, memory, and stress resilience. A bedroom designed for it — through colour, light, and material choices like the ones above — becomes one of the simplest, most powerful tools a person can use to protect their wellbeing, without any extra effort once the room itself is right.
